Tuesday 12.

1.  We are down to one car for the time being....it's oddly comforting knowing I just flat out can't leave.  So the tempted trips to the store or out for lunch just aren't there.  However if there was an emergency--I can't leave.  That makes me nervous a bit.

2.  All the boys are back to school this week--I am glad for that.

3.  Breakfast this morning consisted of homemade oatmeal (as in not instant packages--not like I grew the oats..) Zachary opted for Strawberries in his and Jakeb some apples and cinnamon.  All 3 had some brown sugar and a dash of maple syrup--Gavin opted OUT of the fruit.  I still am impressed with their choices.

4.  Food is an ever changing "issue" in our house....for everyone involved.  We eat food away from home much too much and while candy isn't a large issue for 4 out of the 6 people in this house (myself included) we don't eat the variety we should be eating in the fruit/vegetable arena.   Soda's are consumed much too often for 2 of the 6 people in our house (myself included) and while we don't eat horrible we certainly don't eat great.

5.  By don't eat horrible I mean we don't have chips and cookies and candy and ice cream and just junk falling out of the cabinets--but the produce isn't either.

6.  I have cut my coffee to half decaf/half caffeine...I see no difference but I feel better knowing I am not downing multiple cups of caffeine a day.  I don't feel guilty having 2 cups of coffee in the morning.  Which if I wasn't nursing I probably wouldn't--but I am sure it is better that I don't have too much anyway.

7.  Gavin boys birthday is in 7 days.  Wowza!

8.  We...er *I* have decided to revisit the birthday party decision We...er *I* made a few years ago. Instead of birthday parties ceasing to exist after age 5 we are moving to a every other year arrangement--after age 5.  I felt weird and guilty-ish not having a "party" for the big boys this year....

9.  Parties were pretty non existent for me as a kid and while I am no worse for the wear and really think nothing of it I think I like doing the whole party fiasco for the boysies.

10.  Sunday we hit up a random park and I laid out a blanket and hung out with Nolan with the 4 big boys played soccer.  It was perfect.

11.  I also have taken enough video and pictures on my iphone that it will not allow me to take anymore.  Took me 2 months to fill the sucker up.  Oops.

12.  Along with approaching Gavin's birthday we are also speeding fast towards mine...5 days after his.  Eek!

Blowing Away.

It's crazy windy outside today--and chilly!   Nolan is snoozing [briefly] and I am seeing what I can accomplish in the mere minutes that I have--likely this post will be it.
My motivation seems to come in spurts which is good because one week I seem to have it and the next 2 {3} I don't.  I think the toilets are mostly free of urine and the sinks are mostly not growing anything so we are still good to go.
I busted open an avocado for Nolan today--which by the way requires no busting open but rather some easy peasy peeling I used a knife but maybe you don't have to do that--I don't know I have actually never actually purchased an avocado for my own personal consumption.  Growing up we did the traditional fruits apples, bananas, grapes and the like.   Exotic fruit--exotic anything--was not eaten.  Avocado is really softer than a banana and a great first baby food so he got a few finger tip tastes today.  I bought it at the end of last week and while I waffle back and forth about giving it to him it's quickly going bad so instead of letting it sit there and rot while I make my mind up about venturing down the solid food path with the 5 and a half month old boy, I decided I would at least cut it and mash it and freeze it.   So cut it and mash it I did and it's now residing in the freezer.  I did let the 5 and half moth old baby boy have some samplings from my finger tip.  His reaction was both eager and gagging at the same time.  So he's about as ready as any baby whose never actually had food in his mouth would be.  Why I am waffling is silly all 3 of his big brothers got food at roughly this age.  However A)he's likely the last tiny baby we will have and B) "they" say to wait until 6 months C) despite his every 3 hour eating nearly around the clock he seems to be doing just fine.  On the flip side try food with a baby is A) fun B) he's obviously totally into food and meets all the ready for food milestones "they" suggest C) he's done nearly everything pretty darn early so being ready for food would likely be the same.   But then I read things like a babies intestines are ready to do what they do for solid foods around 6 months--so agh what if I ruin his intestines for life because he got food at 5 and a half months instead of 6 or maybe it's 8?   See why the conundrum?   No?  Right that's because it's silliness really...I keep reminding myself this.   Being a mother is a lot of mental work.  A lot.  Especially if you are an over-thinker like yours truly.
I have managed to get this post hammered out and the bus just rolled by...the middle big boys will be home momentarily.  The biggest of the big ones is spending the afternoon with a friend.   It's much too windy for them to hit up the back yard--100 ft trees are not good friends on windy days!
The 5 and half month old baby boy--has now awoken from his slumber so this is in fact all I managed in his brief nap.
Enjoy your {windy} day!

Photo Friday.

Spring break week I made it a goal to get a chance to take each of the big boys out "just us"...I managed to do just that...above are pictures from our "date" and not to be left out a picture of Nolan on Easter.

Sickies.

Every day this week we have had one child stay home and today is no different.  Jakeb is home with a upset stomach and he is lounging in his bed with strict instructions of no playing and no happy bouncing thru the house.
After yesterday's visit (and co-pay!) to the dr. with Zachary it was pointed out that maybe we are a bit too liberal with the staying home going on around here.  Ho hum, it's always something it seems.
It's a rainy day again and while it's very much needed my mood could use a little bit of sunshine.  Though this happy chatty snuggly happy baby is my sunshine for the day.  I woke up this morning with him snuggled right up against me with a hand on my cheek and I really don't think there is a better way to wake up.
We have hit the boys up with some allowance and responsibilities this week and I am really hoping we can manage to stick to it all this time around.  The boys wouldn't let us forget about the money part but will certainly forget about the responsibility part so we will see how it all plays out.  At 10, 8, and 6 the time has come for their assistance in the house hold and for the most part they are ok with that and are willing helpers--for the most part.  We haven't supplied them with a long list but for now are starting with the basics--cleaning rooms (dust/vacuum etc) and their bathroom.   In addition to helping with dishes at meal times.  We are also working on encouraging them to do more on their own--or rather learning to, things that honestly you don't even realize they need to be doing until someone says--you still cut his food?  Or he can't do that himself?  And then you go "oh yeah wow, your right he should....how is he old enough to do that and why didn't I realize that?"  I think back to the things I was doing on my own at their ages and realize we need to back off a bit.   Not only does it teach them all the things they need to learn but also eases up our stress a bit.  It's a hard juggle too but we are encroaching on new ground with a now preteen and a tween.  So learn they must.  And it's good.
Ok the happy smiley squeally baby is deciding he needs some attention!   Enjoy your Friday!

Boiling point.

Roughly once a month or every 2 weeks or something I seem to hit my boiling point with all things life and house wifery and mothering.  I get frustrated and upset and tired and overwhelmed and just all of it.  I vent I have my "temper tantrum" and I move on and the next day--hour?  I feel better.  Much like other folks (I almost typed much like grown ups....like what I am isn't grown up..) their jobs and just life.  It boils and that's good but sometimes I walk away and it overflows and that is so hard.  No moments of rest or it's overflowing.
Today I have a mild headache and I am tired.  Tired of waking up all.night.long.  But at the same time not tired of waking up all.night.long.  because while I complain or vent or gripe or whatever this is exactly what I want.   But letting things just go is so hard for me...because while I let them go in the back of my mind I know that when I do get to it the next day it's going to be twice as much.  And sometimes that's ok...but today {and yesterday} I am frustrated.  I don't even know exactly what about other than the usual.  The bathrooms are dirty and I have attempted a few dozen mini "projects" only to be interrupted by a baby needing holding or a big boy needing attention.  So there things sit and even as I type this I know it's really silly but oy at the same time just oy.
It's dreary out and the kids have been sick and my head isn't happy and today right at this very moment I feel overwhelmed at all things house.   The kid part is the easy part really it's doing the kid part and the house part and the taking care of people and things part that is trying.  All of it together is a lot and it's just a lot.
And I keep making promises--I promise we will do it, just not right now.  I don't know when but I promise we will.  I need to work on some videos with Jakeb and Zachary wants to do the science kit gifts we got him for Christmas {one of which is from 2 Christmas' ago}.  And Gavin just wants to talk and count his money and Nolan needs to be fed or held.   I need to clean and pick up and why in the world is there gum still on a window I can't reach and a sticky frog on the ceiling and why are we sick again and why can't the dogs learn to wipe their paws.  But such is life and it's busy and good...really good it is.  But sometimes I need to stop and just stop and life doesn't and while I reach back out to get back on the swing I get disoriented and there I sit in the whirlwind and today, right now that's where I am.  Caught and stuck.  Boiling over.

Tuesday Twelve

1.  We just got back from Zman getting his braces on...he looks cute.

2.  Nolan is in my lap desperately trying to get the keyboard.

3.  He also would really like to get his hands/mouth on my phone...very badly.

4.  I really really need to go get a hair cut.

5.  We also could use a good day of rain.

6.  Jakeb is going on another chartered bus field trip in May.  This time they are going to downtown Atlanta.  Robert is going and I wish I could go...but I can't really leave Nolan that long and also can't really bring him.  Boo.

7.  The boys are watching Ghostbusters on Netflix...I imagine we will regret this decision later.

8.  We have just over a month of school left...really need to get a "game plan" for summer!

9.  I was able to read 2 books this past week...but I also realized why I don't read very often.  I don't just sit down and read a little here and there...I do nothing for 2 days except read.   That and feed/change/talk to the baby.

10.  Self control is not something I have a lot of....

11.  I really really hope we are able to get to the beach this summer

12.  Also that's really all I have.....

Cha-ching.

That's pretty much Gavin's theme song right now.  That and "Money, money, money...MONEY!" because kiddo is all about <s>obsessed</s> with money right now.  Like drop a coin on the counter and it's gone or he is sprinting in from the other room all "What was that?".   Also poor guy is home again dealing with wheezing lungs.  Good times for the almost 6 year old.  Who also is requesting all sorts of things for his birthday but most of all...just money.
I think Nolan is working on sprouting some teeth but when I look I see nothing but the growling, fist shoving into his mouth, drooling-ness tells me otherwise--we shall see I s'pose.  I am not one to start shouting "oh he's teething" because that seems to be the "excuse" for all ailments that are baby.  But all points point teeth.
I made homemade granola bars this weekend that we all think are yummy with the exception of Jakeb.  Who deemed them delicious until today when he took one to school for snack...of course someone has to not like them.  Grr.  They are crazy easy and darn tasty.  Also whipped up another batch of Pumpkin muffins which are always a favorite.  Working on making more snacks and buying less prepackaged overpriced crap filled easy street snacks.  Week 2 of it and it's worth it just to type "I made homemade granola bars..." mmmhmm so I think the trend shall continue.  The feeling of self accomplishment is motivation for me.
Nothing to speak of on the adoption front.  We are just twiddling our thumbs and waiting...which is odd.  Not the twiddling of thumbs because we aren't really just doing that...but the just waiting.  Because we are just waiting for Nolan to get older.  But at the same time not wanting him to but wanting him to but not.  But agghh what a confusion.  I wish the trips were easier and we could bring the little growling boy with us but that's not feasible so we wait and twiddle but not really.  Which is also hard because while we wait for this guy to get older so we can leave him and it not be so hard on him and us "our little one" way across the ocean is also getting older with no one to love on him/her yet.  So that's a conflicting emotion going on for sure.  One we try not to dwell on--the other factor is of course funds.  We need more funds and more time to get to that point both thru raising and saving.  So that's that and a bit more concrete than waiting for the baby to get older.
That's all I can think to ramble on about this Monday....or rather I could continue but nothing is striking my fancy other than what I have already said.  Enjoy the day!

Tuesday Twelve.

1.  I sold a few items on Ebay this past week...first time for that in a LONG time...because I can't stand going to the post office.  For no good reason other than it's a pain in the rump.  But it's not really...soooo....

2.  The temps are cooling back down for a few days this week so I am stuffing Nolan in all his "winter" gear again--I am glad he is getting a chance to wear the stuff again!  Most of it he has only worn once or twice because it got so warm!

3.  I can't believe my Gbabes is going to be SIX!

4.  I "need" some new tennis shoes--and now I can actually say that.  I have had the same pair since before I did the CM half marathon...3 or 4 YEARS ago.  So all you folks that say "you have too many shoes or so many shoes" can kiss my hiney.

5.  Nolan is snoozing really quickly before I run to the post office.  It's 11am and his 2nd nap of the day.

6.  I forgot to put this in his "5 month" post yesterday...when I rock him to sleep he almost always is reaching up to touch my face and will often fall asleep with his little hand holding my cheek.  Sweetest thing ever.

7.  OH!  I FINALLY took some pictures of the biggest boys this past week.  Jakeb is too big and Zachary isn't a fan of pictures (and also really needs some braces!)  However they are part of a 4 pack of the cutest boys I know.

8.  This past week I took each of the big boys out to a meal with just us...it was nice and needs to happen more often.  Especially in a "larger" family it got some one on one time in and I was able to chit chat and check in with the boysies.  I learned that Gavin is a chatter box and while I knew that it's different when he doesn't have to compete with his bros for talking time.  Zachary is just as silly on his own and Jakeb seems to absorb every detail of the books he reads.

9.  Nolan is chatting away in his crib now.

10.  Also I am 5 lbs away from what I weighed at my first OB appt at 8 weeks.

11.  I still need to work out some mental game plans for the "summer attack".

12.  Gavin, we have discovered, is pretty darn athletic.

....off to the post office!

5 months.

The baby boy is rocking 5 months old now and I can't believe it's been 5 whole months since we were sitting in the hospital in aww with our newest addition.  Currently he's napping and I am of course watching the clock.  Two things I have realized--the baby boy is a cat napper and that's just how it is.  Every 1.5 hours maybe 2 he takes a nap for 30 minutes maybe 45.  It doesn't matter how we slice it dice it or arrange it.  I can rock him, hold him, ditch the paci, swing him, my bed, his bed, the car, no light, light, you name it that's just what he does.  However at night roughly around 8 he is down for the count asleep he is still waking once or twice just like his brothers did at this age but even in "waking" doesn't open his eyes.  He knows I am there and knows he will get fed quickly after just a wee bit of squirming and maybe a slight whimper.   So the guy naps 30-45 min between 4 and 5 times a day so he is still getting his "required" sleep time.  He almost always wakes up happy and smiley and as soon as he sees a face pop over the side of his crib he smiles a big opened mouth grin.
At 5 months he is officially a sitter and officially a loud baby {and officially awake...haha}...He likes to yell and talk as loud as he can.  He has discovered his tongue and that his toes will reach to his mouth and he still thinks his hand is the best chew toy.   At 5 months he seems to be demonstrating to us that he has a temper and is starting to "get mad" before he cries.  He will arch his back and we can tell the difference between mad and sad.  He is a growler and so very obviously a boy with his sound making.  His hair is as wild as ever and I am going to resist cutting it for as long as possible because Hello...he's a baby!
He seems to be getting attached to his swaddle blankets, though we no longer swaddle him.  He can often be found with one on his face after a nap or when he should be napping...he tosses them up there and pants and kicks his feet and then is all smiles when you pull it back.  I can't decide if this is a game or an accident.  Maybe a little of both.  He still radiates excitement thru his entire body and shakes and shakes with happy.  He has had an apple slice and a strawberry to "suck" on for a few seconds and seems to be interested in food though I am not ready to officially start feeding him.  So he has yet to actually have food yet but certainly seems almost ready for it.  I think we will start with banana.  He is still nursing and gaining great so I am in no rush.
We have started calling him velcro baby this past week as he would much prefer to be held than to sit in any of the many contraptions we have for him.  He will however bounce his heart out in the jumperoo from time to time and now that he sits he will play with toys on his Einstein mat for a little bit.   His laughs are a bit harder to get but he still laughs often and is just a very happy very busy baby boy.
He has everyone in this house wrapped around his finger and we are enjoying every second of him.  We soak up his happy and smiley self.   Can't believe we are on our way to half a year old already...

Spring spring break break

Ho hum.  Poor Gavin is sick on his spring break and we are laying low.  Little guy has moved from the couch one time all morning and while it wasn't the best option he asked for a rice krispie treat and didn't even eat the whole thing.  Which means he is not feeling well at all.  Because hello Rice Krispie treats are like his favorite.
As I was thinking about it today I realized he was sick last spring break as well with the same thing.  Really not cool for the boy.   So on top of the wheezy cough and asthma flare up from last week he's finishing strong with a stomach bug.  Bummer dude.
Nolan is graduating out of some of his baby items...already we have sent the cradle and bouncy seat to his cousin Reagan for her enjoyment.  Next up is the swing, so sad but what...so we have a 10 year old (say huh?) and a baby who is already almost 5 months (say wha?)   Weirdness my friends.
And also as I previously mentioned would happen our yard has had a green explosion.  Mostly with poison ivy and thorns and some wild ferns and wonky trees--but holy green batman.  Our yard was a overgrown insane mess of a mess when we moved in and slowly but surely we are taking back the land and turning into a more enjoyable location.  Next on the list is obvs the poison ovy and thorns and of course the trees that lumber jack Robert mowed down a few weeks ago.   Before and after pictures are certainly going to be impressive.  Promise.
Nolan received a swing for the swing set over the weekend and gave that a go today.  He's a fan and he's cute.  So it's win, win.
I finally ordered pictures for the itty bitty picture frame ornaments we have so next Christmas I will be so happy that I stepped up to the plate on that one.  I even kept them out so I would put the pictures in the frame of course this means that for the next 8 months picture frame ornaments are going to be floating from one location to the next until I finally get fed up with looking at them and put them away.  Out of sight of course--which also means I will likely forget about them all the while wondering what it was I was going to remember at Christmas.  I could ping my smart phone to let me know where they are sometime in December--a little reminder.  That's a smart person idea but not likely that I will do that.  But that is pretty smart...
I would like to share some pictures with you...HOWEVER.  97% of all photographs taken in the last 2 months have been with the phone and while I am sure it was 100% easy to get them from the phone to blogger I haven't figure it out yet.  Other than the obvious put them on the computer and put them on the blog...too many steps.  Right right so enough about my slacker'ness.  I made dinner tonight so there.  I also plan to do some baking tomorrow so yeah--and because I said it I will.  :)
Off to hunt down a picture for you.....
So here ya go...I DID take some pictures with the real camera--I went out with the wild..er big boys and told them to give me silly/crazy faces, they were good listeners....

And here is Reagan--the new cousin--the only first cousin!   On St. Patty's day--which coincidently is also the day we found out there in fact was going to be a Nolan except we didn't know he was a he at that point...and Jakeb's birthday so proud to be 10.
