Tuesday Twelve.

1. I told myself I would turn my light off at 10:30...it's 10:37 and I am starting this instead....10:30 really means 10:45.

2. I like these blog posts...they are quick and easy and don't require a lot of effort. Right now things like that are good for me.

3. I have started watching a neighbors little one...as in I started today. The morning started out a little hairy but the day ended quite well. Hoping tomorrow is even better....it's good for Nolan and I both to have some company.

4. The boys are really starting to do well with piano...Jakeb really seems to be enjoying it.

5. I signed Nolan and I up for a Kindermusik class on Friday mornings....it starts next week.

6. In just a few short weeks my Zachario is going to be 9...that's nuts.

7. Jakeb told me the other day I have a wrinkly old forehead...last night as I stared at my face in the mirror while getting a haircut I realized he is totally right.

8. All the sudden I FEEL older...I know 32 isn't old...but lately I feel older than 32...thank you exhaustion.

9. I think we are going to have to bite the bullet and get Gavin's tonsils out...they are massive and lately seem to be a constant issue. Ho hum...no fun. He isn't the best patient...

10. I have 2 minutes....

11. Clean sheets are the best...I am currently laying on nice soft clean sheets. Perfect.

12. Also so is a nice hot blanket from the dryer...snuggly warm.

....just scooted in under the clock! Night!

Cat scratch fever.

My mean ole' cat scratched me pretty good the other day...it hurts and he's not really mean but that was not nice. He was all like hey don't fold that laundry I am LAYING ON IT...so I snatched it out from under him and he was like biiiiittccchhh I said don't touch that, smack. So maybe it was my fault but whatever. Cats are cool just so you know...for all you cat haters. That's the first decent cat scratch I have had in years and we have 3 cats. So yeah.
When I was in 5th grade I thought I was the bees knees because I had one little ole nail that was long so I walked up to a girl and was like hey girl look at this long nail...isn't it sharp on your hand, haha. Then I moseyed on to my seat...10 seconds later she walks up to me grabs my hand and proceeds to scratch the top layer of my skin off with her 4 fingers. 23 years later I still have the scars to prove it and think it's a funny story...funny weird. Also funny because I remember standing in the hall listening to my teacher rip her a new one because hello...obvious. This girl is also a Facebook friend, unless she deleted me which is totally possible because I don't keep tabs on that stuff. So if the cat scratch scars too I guess it will match and maybe one day I will learn not to mess with folks...but totally overreacted....and I probably won't learn.
I feel like I perpetually have a million and ten things I want to do and some days I am like Oh.my.god. so much to do and some days I am like whatever man...who cares...everything is great. And really both of those days are needed...because without the freak out days I would never do a darn thing and without the whatevers I would need to be locked away. I am totally a list maker but totally a list maker who then loses or forgets the list...it is what it is because usually once I make the list I don't need it. My memory is cool like that. I could probably dial your phone number twice and know it forever and ever. Or at least for a long time. But I can't remember to bring a grocery list.
We hit up a foster care orientation this Monday. I feel good about it but at the same time very freak out too. I wish I had a crystal ball because I know an adoption will happen eventually it's just the eventually that makes me scared. And my boys being broken hearted when a baby we adore has to leave. I keep saying...we will just see what happens. My motto so very often is one foot in front of the other just keep moving...and this is no different. I am excited and nervous and excited and scared and excited and nervous....and also we have a bit to do before we are licensed. I also drove to the post office today and dropped in a letter saying we would like to close our file with our agency. This makes me sad but right now I can't sit in limbo and I just can't put the time and emotions into another country...after 2 that's it...for now. We will give this option a try, we shall see.
I promise I will get Christmas pictures up here...and also I need to get Nolan's one year pictures done. I would have preferred that they were done at 12 months but they weren't and that's ok. Here are a few random pictures for ya...the first are my new "boots" which I am excited about...A)I never buy myself nice things and B)I never myself "different" things...this makes me happy and also they are super cute. Nolan is cute in his $2 overalls and Robert taught Jakeb and Zachary leg wrestling...and also on the 2nd day of the year we took Jakeb's best friend 1/2 back to his house and stopped in at Ruby Falls.
and that's that...

Tuesday Twelve.

1.  Haven't done one of these in forever!

2.  It's a rainy dreary day...it's also January so pretty much expected.  Blah.

3.  Also it's January...how did that happen!

4.  Nolan is again trying to steal my mouse...daily friends...daily I am taking the computer mouse away from him.  Stubborn much?

5.  We had an orientation last night for foster care...we are going to give it a go and see what happens.  I am nervous and excited...we will see.

6.  I am looking into either doing a Gymboree class or Kindermusik with Nolan...we need something to get us out of the house!

7.  The big boys got report cards last Friday.  They all 3 did WONDERFUL.  Yay for good grades!

8.  Gavin is the "writer of the month" for January.  He is very proud of this.

9.  I have yet to blog about Christmas....I will I promise.  Don't worry there isn't much to blog other than pictures...nothing crazy or exciting happened!

10.  We are on the hunt for a repair man to fix our rotting wood on the back of the house...in other news the previous owner is a scammer and sucks....instead of fixing the damage to the SUPPORT beam on the sunroom they put plywood over it, painted it, and called it a day.  Jerks.

11.   One day I will post pictures of the finished stairs--that is of course when they are finished.  They are VERY close to finished...just need some touching up.  Actually they need to be completely repainted....

12.  I have been obsessed with Brandi Carlile  lately and listen to that particular album daily.  Love.

I am obviously having some difficulties blogging lately. One of them is 14 months old and obsessed with my mouse and the other is not being able to think of a darn thing to say. Or in fact...I can't narrow it down to WHAT to say. Like should we talk about the horrible'ness of December 14th or the fact that Russia has stopped adoptions to American's or maybe I should blog about Christmas and the New Year or just none of that and talk about how things are here. So really I just don't know where to begin because I feel like I can't blog about one until I blog about the other but I don't even know what to say in the first place about either. So we are at an impasse the ole' blog and me.
The winter blues are setting in too and that's a bummer. The sun isn't expected for at least the next week though in the meantime we have 60 and 70 degree temps. I am feeling the need to chase the sun and bask in it somewhere. I get this way nearly every January...antsy and ready to hit the open road...ready for a trip a little getaway. In fact I realized the other day that every time we have moved has been in Feb/March...which means we made the decision to move in January. This year I feel no desire to move houses but I am feeling antsy. Home painting and repairs are on my list and getting tackled...
For those that are curious...our adoption plan...we decided to leave our file in Russia while we made our decisions. One of the reasons we chose NOT to do adoption in the US and out of foster care was and is fear...fear of falling in love with a child and them being taken. Yet here we now sit afraid to switch to a new country again...to do the paperwork and begin dreaming of a child and thinking of how we will celebrate and embrace their heritage. So knowing that the risks are there either way we are looking into foster care adoption....we are going to a meeting next week. We will see what they say. For now our plan is to find out more and if we decide we are going this route we will {sadly} close our file with our agency. If not we will look again at another country. If Russia changes or US adoption doesn't work out we will come back to it at a later time...when Nolan is older and we are able to handle all that comes with international adoption better. I feel ok with this decision and the worry about leaving Nolan while we travel is gone....the concern over how exactly we were going to pay for everything is gone. So while I am sad for Russia and sad for us and so very very sad for all the children I am hopeful that this will change and that everything will be ok. It's all I can be...hopeful. In the mean time I am trying not to picture a child or children or think about furniture or beds or who is sleeping where. I am trying to get my 14 month old a hair cut that is straight and to take a decent nap....or how my big boys need a wee bit more responsibility and maybe how we need a housekeeper (at least for a little while). And also help Jakeb get over strep throat and marvel that Gavin had the same symptoms but no fever and is better. That's my plan and that's what we are up to here. I will blog about Christmas soon...

Happy New Year!

Wow.  I have thought several times over the last 2 days...about my post for 2012.  Honestly I am still thinking.  I haven't had a moment to sit and reflect over the past year...Really the year rolled over and life rolled along right with it.  New Years is one of my favorite holidays.  Something seems almost magical about the beginning of a new year.   And this one is no different really but it is at the same time.
We had no major life changing events occur in 2012 and for that I am glad.  We just trucked along doing our thing...we had birthdays and good days and bad days and while most seems to rush by at lightening speed I can say it was a good year.  Our first entire year as a family of 6.
My goals for the year were bountiful and some I met and some I am still working on...some I will likely work on for years to come.  More patience, relaxing, etc etc.
Being honest here I can't come up with a profound thing to say about the past year.  I think my head is still swirling around in May and can't quite come to grips with the fact that 2012 is in fact over.  I feel like if I can just hit pause for just a darn second I could catch up and reflect.   I know it was a good year and I know that there were rough times and wonderful times and times I could sit and pin point and say "this day was amazing" but they are lost in pictures and thoughts that feel a million miles away.  If the fact that I haven't blogged in over 2 weeks is any indication...I have been distracted.  The boys are home and honestly while our holidays were wonderful--world things in December just were...well poopy.
Our family and in our house and life things are good.  The year was a darn good one and for us it ended well.  We spent the last evening of the 2012 year partying it up with loud music and movies with 5 little boys we love.  (Jakeb's bff was here celebrating with us)  We toasted with champagne and sparkling juices (and water for Gavin)  We lit sparklers and snuggled up good.  It was the perfect ending to 2012.  Happy New Year Friends!
