Ice Ice Baby too Cold...
Our snow day quickly turned into an ice day. Friday's snow turned into Saturday's ice...which was so pretty and so funny...because you would step out expecting to sink but nada. No foot prints for the kids --I however am a wee bit uh...heavier and do leave footprints in the ice. The dogs were rather confused and walked around feet sprawled and hunkered down...quite humorous.
Ice however makes for good sledding...so we bundled up--2 socks, 2 gloves, 3 shirts, 2 pants, coat, hat, rain boots= TN snowsuit. Good to go. In our neighborhood we have a big field that is fenced in the middle of all the homes and is supposed to be over flow or something for when we get massive rain storms that could flood all of our homes. It does get water in it but not THAT much...it's a big field people. But it has some pretty decent hills and we hit up those...for some bumpy sliding fun! The grass is tall but it's ice coated currently so it worked after a few trips down we had a pretty sweet track going on. Rock on!
The kids are not into cold weather and Gavin ended up in tears from being so cold so we didn't last very long but had fun none the less.
Robert is still stuck in ATL so he couldn't play with us which super sucks but whatcha gonna do...
All of us sledding with 2 extra kiddo's on tow!

Like that face?...I did say it was bumpy!

Zachary hit the slopes..

Jakeb going for it...

Down our street...

Ice on my favorite tree..Tulip Poplar

Let it Snow
Holy snow storm batman. Several weeks ago it snowed...and snowed...and snowed but you would have never known it snowed for days because it just wouldn't stick. We are currently going on the 11th hour of straight snow falling from the sky and have at the very least 3in. but I am thinking closer to 4 even 5 in some areas. It is slowly switching from snow to ice falling. And this trend is supposed to continue until tomorrow afternoon.
Robert is not here. We are all very bummed. All flights into Nashville were canceled. He was able to get a flight from Wisconsin to Atlanta. Not close enough and no way do we want him attempting the drive home. Tons of snow and no Daddy to play with makes for 2 very bummed boys (Gavin doesn't know to care yet) and 1 bummed Mommy. But such is life...if we lived in Atlanta like we are considering this wouldn't be an issue...of course we also wouldn't have snow to play in either. This is a lot of snow people. Nashville government offices shut down at 12pm. The city is c.l.o.s.e.d. Parts of the interstate have been closed. We are hunkering down. It's gorgeous out, I can't wait to wake up in the morning to see what we get overnight! Fingers crossed it's not lots of ice and a cold house because we have no power. That would be not so fun.

SuperMom
I was just reading THIS post from THIS blogger whom I just recently discovered. And I just had to come here to my blog and relate. As I have said this to a few people quite recently. That I feel so accomplished when I get those "little" things done.
Recently my challenge to myself has been to prepare dinner at home for my family. And after each and every meal *I* prepare at home. I feel like a SuperMom. I shouldn't because really I should be preparing meals at home, but with a husband that travels it's hard. It's hard to prepare a meal have a boy walk in and say "Whatcha cookin?" and then say "YUCK!! I don't like that!" or stomp off near tears after you tell them the dish. It's hard to have 3 people snub your meal and then dump half of it in the trash...so for the past 2+ years most of our eating has been done away from home. But our check book and our every growing waist line would beg to differ and are demanding fair treatment. SO cooking at home it is. Honestly there are many things that make me feel like a SuperMom. It's the little things. Keeping the kitchen clean all day, marking off the to do list, folding that last basket of laundry, having a chat with a boy and learning something new about him, not loosing my temper, making that trip to the store, spending some special time with one of them (I should do this much, much more often). I am far from a SuperMom but I do relish in the moments when I feel close to one, because so many times I feel so very far from it.

Another one bites the dust
Got a call from the school nurse promptly 30 min after school began. I knew as soon as I saw the number on the id....I was going to have to get Jakeb from school. He's got to funky cough Zachary had--but not quite so severe in fact not even close. But I know he's feeling a bit slighted since Zachary got to miss FOUR days of school last week and he's not gotten to lay out of even one. So this morning after no absolute answer as to how he was feeling, all I got was "kinda good, kinda bad", he was sent to school with instructions to tell his teacher if he felt bad and I would come get him. So indeed he did---the nurse I know is convinced I was one of those parents who dosed the kid up with Motrin and sent him on. Especially after her accusatory question--"What medicine did he have this morning?" For the record he had no fever and received no Motrin. He got 1tsp of Delsym to help with his cough because he said the cough made his chest hurt. Either way he is now home and resting on the couch with strict instructions that he can do nothing else.
Hopefully he feels better tomorrow.
And the wheels of motion have been set forth...we'll see what happens with Georgia.

Hemming and Hawing
As previously posted I made the mistake 2 weeks ago of looking at housing in North Georgia. Much to my surprise the homes in the area were a decent amount lower than the homes here, in Mid Ten.
My search began Cartersville, GA. After a buzz through town, Robert discovered it's a bit further from where his company's office is located than desired. So we mossied a little further south finding ourselves looking in Canton and Woodstock, GA. Nice homes, decent prices, bigger yards. So far we like what we see. The next step is making a trip down to check out the area.
That's great. Then I step back and go holy crap...moving from TN, moving from the state I have lived in for my entire.life. My children and I were all born in the same hospital for crying out loud. Now there was a brief 1 1/2 year stint of living in Florida when I was um 3. And again for a year and a half in Indianapolis, IN when I was 7. But TN has always, always been home. And considering moving to Georgia..I feel like traitor.
The boys are all for it, but they I am pretty sure just like the excitement of a new house and new city. They are my motivation for moving. They are also what stops me. The motivation because the company Robert works for is in Roswell, GA. Almost 4 hours from here. Our hope is that one day he will be able to have a position that allows him to not travel and being close to the office we *think* will be beneficial. Keeping that in mind, I don't want to learn 5 years down the road that we need to yank the boys from Middle School and move. However there is no guarantee that moving to GA will be beneficial or necessary. There is a very strong possibility, but no promise. So the decision is do we want to move the kids now while they are young and don't care, or wait til they are older and care more. This sudden realization that I don't know where we could end up started after a conversation I had with my grandmother over Christmas. I all the sudden felt like we were just floating around, waiting to be told where we could settle down. We haven't floated, we haven't moved...but the future possibility is there that we would have to. Robert has always said he doesn't want to stay here in this town. So my feelings suddenly hit "let's get it over with". If moving closer to Roswell will be beneficial then let's get it over with while the kids are young and don't' care. But oh.my.goodness. is this decision tough. New schools, new friends, new doctors, new towns, new activities...all new. Our families are here, we would be 3-4 hours away. We could get more house for less....so much to consider and no right answer I am sure. "Follow your heart"...is a confusing statement for me...one minute my heart says stay and the next says go. It's confused, as is the rest of me. Robert and the boys are not. They are ready to go. But I am not ready to leave TN...at least I don't think I am...at this very second. Georgia. Tennessee. Georgia. Tennessee. Georgia. Tennessee. That is the question.

Super Sunday Sixteen
Haven't done this in a while...
1. I have been cooking LOTS lately. Food Network is my new best friend.
2. The boys have turned into little Super Mario Brothers junkies. They want to play it all day long. They are appalled at the fact that I only allow them 2hrs Wed. Sat/Sun to play.
3. We are still discussing moving. Actually there isn't much discussing left...it's going to happen.
4. We just don't know if it will happen THIS year, NEXT year...or the Next. Currently we are thinking THIS. But we would like to actually SEE the towns we are looking at first.
5. I on a complete whim went with a friend last night and got.my.nose.pierced.
6. Today I am not sure how I feel about decision.
7. I have issues with worrying what people think of me...having a piercing on.your.face. Gives people reason to think a certain way about you...I don't like that. I like it though.
8. I also apparently have a jacked up nostril...who knew? This made for a difficult time. I will not do that again. Yowch.
9. Zachary missed the entire week of school last week, because he missed it we spent some time working on reading and some math sheets. First grade math sheets. He shocked me with how quickly he got it. I am excited for him to hit first grade and actually learn something other than how to sort crap....
10. Jakeb has yet to miss a SINGLE word on ANY spelling tests this year. He has made a 100 on EVERY SINGLE TEST for the ENTIRE year! The kid has reading and spelling down pat.
11. We have a long list of things to do to get our house ready to sell. Most of them are minor...the biggest task is decluttering the upstairs. THAT is scary.
12. I had my first 2 sessions of the year this weekend. 2 sweet little baby girls.
13. Our cats think bring LIVE MICE into the house threw the kitty door in the garage is the best idea since canned cat food. I am trying to figure out how to assure them it is not...not even close.
14. One of the said mice jumped OUT OF MY PRINTER. Yes you read that right.
15. Zachary turns 6 very soon. Wow.
16. Dinner this evening was Ginger Glazed Mahi Mahi---it was pretty good.

Thank you may I have another.
The 2 youngest of the 3 are home sick today. Both congested and coughing. Zachary seems to be trying to cough his lungs right out of his body. His poor stomach muscles are sore from the magnitude in which his coughing is occuring. Gavin is snotty and raspy voiced. Which oddly enough always happens when he gets a cold--both symptoms the oddness is the raspy voice every.single.time.
We headed to Chattanooga for a spur of the moment trip to the aquarium on Sunday. We bought a pass last year that expires this month so we wanted to use it one last time.
This week I somehow ended up on realtor.com. Really it was a round about way in which I found myself there. I saw a thing about EVOO, being the non-chef that I am googled EVOO to find out exactly what it was. Upon my search I learned A) EVOO is Extra Virgin Olive Oil B) I DO know what that is! C)Trader Joe's carries a good one and was up there on the google search page. (yes EVOO can be purchased anywhere it just came up in the search) I then thought hmmm...I wonder where exactly Trader Joe's is in TN. The closest TJ's to us is in Green Hill's, Good to know. The next TWO closest are in Roswell, GA. Roswell, GA is also the location of one of the main offices for the company which Robert works. Robert travels for his job, we live in TN, they are in GA. This got me wondering exactly what DO homes go for in that area since the idea of moving closer has been tossed around over the years. Much to my surprise they were lower than here, with bigger yards and basements. My heart skipped a beat. I looked at the map picked a town name I liked and started looking. Needless to say it became a slight addiction over the past 2 days. I am slowly trying to wean myself from realtor.com. Moving isn't much of an immediate option but is something we have always tossed around. For me moving the kids around a million times to a million schools isn't an option either. I went to about 9 too many schools for my taste and would prefer the kids stick to a couple. Either way we'll see what happens! The boys at this point are all for moving...though they would prefer moving to the beach--and I must agree, I am pretty sure our budget doesn't fit "a house on the beach".

The Snow that wouldn't quit
and wouldn't stick. This past week/weekend. We had 3 days of snowing. 3 continuous days of snow falling from the sky. Yet we barely had enough to cover the ground, in fact we didn't. Needless to say this is the south...we take what snow we can get, we cancel school because afterall it is the south we don't know how to drive in.the.snow. And we must rush out and play in it...we must head to the store for essentials...we didn't do this. We rushed out for real sleds, tossing out the trash can lid and boogie boards of past seasons in exchange for a disc sled thingy that I am pretty sure will slide on just about anything. We got us a real sled boys (that must be said in your best southern accent possible for the full effect).

Technological Overload
Recently I have looked around at my children and other children around them and I often feel sad for them--sad isn't the right term really but I am drawing a blank. Granted they have more than they even know what to do with. But THAT is why I feel "sad". They [kids in general] have toys and TV's and Wii's and Xbox's and Game Cubes and DS's and DSi's and Leapsters and omg omg omg the technology is always better the next day...the next hour. They can't even keep up with what's new. YAY for technology but BOO for technology. You are taking away our children's playtime, their exercise, their joy for the outdoors, their discovery of new things beyond the video screen, their health, their appreciation for more. My kids can't go outside with out a toy or playground to play on or SOMETHING. They have a very hard time just finding something to do with simple things. And we limit their video game time. Honestly I would like to take them all and throw them out the window. We don't have many, we only have a Wii, 2 DS's, and a Leapster. They are allowed to play the Wii on Weekends and on Wednesday's for no more than 2 hours each day. But quite often they don't make it to that point because they argue, they fight, they scream, they cry, they yell. They loose their bloody minds over a video.game.they.lost.
They are not allowed to have TV's in their rooms, they are not allowed to sit in the car and play their DS for the entire trip to a location, we do not have a TV in our car--we do have one we use on long trips only. Just this year for Christmas did I get my very first iPod. Jakeb got a shuffle. I love it...I use it all the time...in the kitchen to listen to music. It's like a custom radio without commercials that's all.
Soon enough I imagine the boys will get angry at us for limiting their video games for not allowing a TV In the room, for not upgrading their game system at every chance there is. I hope one day they appreciate it. Because it's for a reason, one they don't understand yet but I hope they do. It's for several reasons.
To me it's just sad. Sad that we are replacing so much that is natural with so much that is artificial. I hope we can...keep it simple.

Twenty Ten take two
So not that I have many readers (poor me) BUT just to keep the 3 of you happy I will finish up with my 2009 photographic review. For what it's worth A) that was not posted on the 1st but instead probably the 5th but it kept the date from when I STARTED the post oops! and B) digging these off the CD's is a giant pain. It sounds like it shouldn't be...pop in the disk snag a photo. In theory yes but just trust me. My computer is cantankerous. So where did I leave off...
July 2009...
A very photographed trip to our nations capital (Washington D.C. for those of you that are stumped) to celebrate July 4th.

and another newly painted room...for the Zman

With October we saw...
The Shriners Circus

And attended a Cub and Family camping event with Cub Scouts for Jakeb

And trick or treated our hearts out...as Captain America, Wolverine, THE Black Power Ranger along with our friend Superman

with November came...
The holding of a baby chick

A Star Stallion Award.

Trampoline fun..

Some Silly faces

And if that wasn't enough there was December
Santa was seen

Grandparents were seen...Robert's parents aka Nonna and Grandaddy

Nerf wars were played with Uncles...this one being Uncle James (my mom's brother)

A great Grandmother visited...my mom's mom from Florida!

Gifts were recieved AND Given..

and an Engagement! my brother Robert and my soon to be Sister in Law Amberly!

Last day of the year festivities watching the 'guitar drop' in Nashville
